Best Pasadena happy hours for BCS fans, Part 1

So, you're in town for the Alabama-Texas National Championship game.

That's great, but since you blew your wad on flights, hotels, tickets, etc., it might be nice to save a little money when eating and drinking, right?

There are a ton of happy hours in Old Town Pasadena, but I'm going to focus on two great ones to get you started. Likewise, I'm picking these two for the food and drink specials.

In Old Town (just south of Colorado on Fair Oaks), MaiKobe is possibly the best food and drink happy hour. Yes, it's Japanese food, but it's not just sushi, and the beer is really cheap. Likewise, the bartenders are great. Befriend them and they will take care of you, even brew up some special shots for you, but you have to be cool. And you have to tip.

Possibly my favorite happy hour in the Old Town area, however, is the YardHouse at Paseo Colorado - just two blocks east of 'Old Colorado'. The happy hour menu is extensive, varied and well-priced. The beer isn't the best deal, especially if you only drink Lite beer. However, if you like to try new beers, there are more than 100 on tap. For my favorite IPA's, such as Racer 5, the happy hour prices are a great deal.

And, the YardHouse offers a nice crowd, as its a very popular stop for those that work in the area, because of its happy hour.

Holy Jesus. Blame Canada for brewing up a pretty incredible Belgian.

The Trois Pistoles is a serious Belgian Ale. Its strong, but you don't taste it. Instead, its a very complex, spiced and fruity ale that is perfectly balanced, as any great Belgian should be.

I recommend the excellent Yardhouse happy hour for this fantastic Belgian alone.

Quick lunch at the Yardhouse

Pizza and salad

Having a little lunch combo at the Yardhouse. Pizza and salad. Not bad for less than 9 bucks. Sure its not as cheap as Sbarro but its better. And they great beer on tap.

And great service. That might not mean much to you, but it means a lot to me.

Still,im really out because its 4/20 and I WEAR WEED, and I wanna see if my t-shirt leads to any 4/20 conversations. Unfortunately, I won't be out when most heads finally get out of bed.

Thought id have a quick one at the Yardhouse before heading to Belgian Fest.

Yes, I was here last night for dinner, and it was the best meal I've had there in several trips. Pizza, calamari, and the spicy tuna roll - all shared.

Its Wednesday. Nothing major going on. Yet the Yardhouse is packed. That's gotta be a good sign for the economy.

Soup and pizza

Stopped by the YardHouse for lunch. They have a cool new lunch menu. Sandwiches and pizza with soup or salad. Definitely more recession-friendly.

Still, I'm feeling fat today. Must be all the Belgians!

Dead tired

Hurting. Las Vegas has taken its toll upon me. Yet, here I am, back in Pasadena having a drink at the YardHouse.

Doohdah last weekend. Vega this weekend.

Im too old. I just can't hang any more, but I'll keep giving it a try.
